"Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:66
PEACHTREE ROAD LUTHERAN PRESCHOOL (PRLP)
PRLP is operated as a non-profit preschool within the body of Peachtree Road Lutheran Church and is licensed by the Bright from the Start Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning as a preschool day and extended day early childhood facility.
OUR PRESCHOOL TODAY
In it's 27th year, our school enjoys unprecedented progress and success. Currently we have an enrollment of 160 students, with approximately 23 full-time teachers and 7 part-time teachers, plus our Directory of Staff and Curriculum, Caroline Lontoc-Diaz, and our Director of Finance and Facilities, Trish Ladd-Thomas. During this past year we have added three classrooms, using space from the church building, and we have made a number of significant improvements to our physical plant. We are currently in the process of pursuing accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a lengthy and rigorous process, but one that will take us to the next level of educational excellence.
EXPERIENCE THE JOY
Each day Ms. Pauli leads the children in a chapel time that represents the reason for our school. During these few moments the children are reminded of the love of God, and they experience the joy of God's love through stories from the Bible and music that they sing with great enthusiasm. When they burst forth with "Deep and Wide," you can hear them at Lenox Square, and their exuberance is a joy to behold.
THE PRESCHOOL MISSION
Our Preschool mission is to provide children with a warm, loving Christian environment that strives to promote growth in all areas of child development including intellectual, social, emotional, physical and spiritual. This program is geared toward providing the children with an enriching education and a strong foundation for learning and individual development. Fine words, but what do they mean?
THREE MISSION GOALS
To understand the reality that underlies our mission statement, we need to look a little deeper at the specific goals that make up the mission.
1. To Proclaim the Love of God - This begins in chapel, but extends much further. It is our goal that the love of Jesus Christ will permeate our lesson plans, crafts, bulletin boards, and our special events, even to the smallest detail of what happens every day. Foundational to the mental, spiritual, and emotional formation of our children is the growing awareness that they are loved and cherished. Obviously they experience this first-hand through our staff, but ultimately the quality of our care points to the love of Christ. We seek to hire staff who are comfortable with talking and teaching from their hearts about God's love for each child.
2. To Teach Children to Love One Another - Essential to their development is an awareness of the feelings and experiences of other children. Each day offers rich variety of opportunities for children to cooperate, share, negotiate, and to stand their ground in their relationships with other children. We want to encourage each child to have a healthy sense of their significance and have the ability to positively impact other children. It is instructive to watch the rapport of the children around the table during lunch time, to hear them share stories from home and dreams for the future. To observe this process gives a teacher a window to a child's future ability to form and maintain lasting relationships which will be vital to their ultimate success in life. The playground time each day also provides rich opportunities to observe a child's ability to relate in healthy ways with other children. Observing their ability to engage one another in fun and cooperative ways is especially a time for vigilance by our teachers.
3. To Promote a Passion for Learning - While all of our lead teachers have undergraduate Baccalaureate degrees and several have Masters degree levels of education supporting a strong academic curriculum, that is not our only goal. While we want to teach the basic cognitive skills, it is much more important for our teachers to also teach the joy of learning. Although graduating from our school with appropriate developmental skills is vital, we also seek to foster a process of education that is fun, creative, and encouraging for the exploration of knowledge. Among the courses offered in our curriculum is our emphasis upon language, represented by our Mandarin Chinese program, our enrichment programs of ballet, dance, creative movement, the use of puzzles to promote analytical thinking, and a science module. A number of our Pre-K children have gone on to some of the finest private and public school systems in our community and without exception have been well prepared for their next step.
