PEACHTREE ROAD
LUTHERAN CHURCH

Social Concerns

In 2006, Lutheran Coalition for Habitat for Humanity will do two home builds in the Atlanta area - the first house was built in Smyrna in the Spring.  Dedication of the house was on June 25.  See the rest of the pictures.

The second build of the year will be in Canton starting September 23rd and go through the first weekend in December.  This home will be built by volunteers over a 12 week period - this is a great time for fellowship with church members from other congregations involved - Apostles, Christ Lutheran, Cross of Life, Good Shepherd, Holy Trinity, St. Lukes, Ascension, Christ the Shepherd, Faith, Prince of Peace, and Rivercliff.  See the Calendar for work schedule.

During our Mission Festival on October 30, 2005, we learned about the medical missionary work of Denny and Paula Lofstrom at the Iambi Hospital Project in Tanzania.  Now their work is being extended to the whole country of Tanzania through International Health Partners TZ.  We were able to collect enough "spare change" to give them funds for 2 refrigerators, items which are needed in areas that they work in that have just recently received electricity.

2005 ELCA Domestic Disaster Alert - ELCA is very involved in response to the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. See also ELCA Giving Basket and Thrivent Financial Huricane Katrina Response.

Peachtree Road Lutheran donates food to Buckhead Christian Ministry to help provide meals for people in need of assistance.  BCM feeds the hungry, helps the working poor, and offers hope to Atlanta's homeless.

Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest international children’s Christmas project, will hand-deliver an estimated 7.8 million gift-filled shoe boxes to children in more than 90 countries suffering from natural disaster, disease, war, terrorism, poverty, and famine.  You can help by preparing a gift-filled shoe box and possibly volunteering at a shoe box collection site.
